Supporting Venezuelan asylum seekers
Our work is grounded in a human-rights perspective and aims to connect lived experiences of displacement with policy debates, institutional practice, and public understanding. We do this through:
Guidance and orientation
We provide general guidance to Venezuelan asylum seekers and migrants navigating the Norwegian asylum and migration system. This includes explaining procedures, timelines, institutional roles, and available support mechanisms. NORVEN Alliance cannot provide formal legal counselling or legal representation. Our role is to help individuals better understand the system and to identify where qualified legal assistance can be sought.
Monitoring and contextualizing asylum data
We closely follow statistics, practice, and trends published by the UDI, with particular attention to how Venezuelan asylum cases are assessed over time. Where relevant, we contextualize this data considering political repression, humanitarian conditions, and human rights developments in Venezuela.
Advocacy and knowledge sharing
We work to keep Norwegian authorities, civil society actors, and other stakeholders informed about latest developments in Venezuela that may be relevant for asylum and migration decision-making. This includes changes in governance, security conditions, patterns of forced displacement, and risks linked to return.
Public debate and awareness-raising
We actively participate in public debates, panels, media discussions, and academic or civil-society forums related to Venezuelan displacement, asylum policy, and migrant rights in Norway and internationally. Our aim is to promote informed, nuanced, and dignified discussions that move beyond simplified or static narratives.
Why this matters:
Venezuelan displacement is the largest international forced migration crises in the world with almost 9 million people as per today. Yet, it is often poorly understood in European asylum debates. Decisions affecting asylum seekers depend not only on legal frameworks, but also on up-to-date country information and contextual insight. By contributing knowledge, data, and lived perspectives, NORVEN Alliance seeks to support fairer and more informed approaches to protection.
